Confessions Saturday: 10:30am- 11am (St John’s/St Thomas) Saturday: 3:15pm-3:45pm (St John’s) Divine Mercy Sunday Jesus said to St Faustina (Diary No 699) “My daughter tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet”. Jesus promises that the soul that’s been to Confession and receives Holy Communion will be completely wiped away of the two stains that are on our soul. Those stains are sin and the temporal punishment due to sin. The special grace promised by our Lord for Divine Mercy Sunday is nothing less than the equivalent of a complete renewal of baptismal grace in the soul. We will have at 3pm next Sunday, an afternoon of God’s Mercy with Adoration, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession. 11th April Divine Mercy Sunday No evening Mass at 5pm because of the service at 3pm. There will be a Mass at 8:30am instead. The 5pm Evening Mass will return to normal on the 18th April. Special Collection Holy Places: Change of date
Due to Covid-19 and the closure of our Churches, the Holy See has asked that the Diocese choose another suitable date for the collection of the Holy Places. As a diocese we have chosen the Sunday nearest “The Exaltation of the Cross” on Sunday the 12th September. This collection is for the upkeep and repair of the fifty shrines that are dear to Christians and pilgrims the world over; and for the Church’s pastoral, educational, social and cultural mission in the Holy Land, including the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the Church of Mary and Joseph’s homes in Nazareth, Peter’s house in Capernaum, the Upper Room of the Last Supper and of Pentecost and the Church of the Calvary and the Holy Sepulchre. In 2018 this collection raised £18,048 which is fully remitted to the Commissariat of the Holy Land. Stations of the Cross There will be Stations of the Cross this Sunday at 3pm in St John’s only. From Diocesan Accountant St John’s, Barrhead: As you know we have been continuing to keep an eye on your account, so you are not too worried over this period. We will make sure you have enough funds in your account to see you through this present virus. We calculate the potential loss of weekly income for St John’s Barrhead is around £2,892 per week. This equates to £12,532 over the next month with restricted numbers at public masses. We can also try to advise on any ways to minimise expenditure. Your monthly standing orders from parishioners was £1,421 per month (pre-coronavirus) and have increased to £3,139 per month by February 2021 per BOS statement. St Thomas, Neilston: We calculate the potential loss of weekly income for St Thomas is around £668 per week. This equates to £2,895 over the next month with restricted numbers at public masses. Your monthly standing orders from parishioners were £1,677 per month (pre-coronavirus) and have increased to £2,415 per month by February 2021 per CB bank statement. If so, please copy this summary and forward it to Claire Carballo to allow her to process your 2020/21 SDS gift aid claim of £2,000. (This was normally raised by September each year, but we are still £1,500 short, so we will not be able to get the £2,000 from the loose change 20/21 non-gift aid) New Envelopes for Tax Year 21/21 These will be available from next weekend only for those who pay Tax. Presentation on Blessed Titus Brandsma This will take place on Sunday the 7th of March @ 4pm. To register contact [email protected] or telephone 07849 596572 When Blessed Titus Brandsma was accused by some of his students of speaking about God in all his teachings in philosophy, he responded: “I can’t help it, that in all things, God gives witness to himself”. In all things God gives witness to himself: in all creation, in all that is; light, shadow and darkness. In reflecting on the life and teachings of this martyr, we can learn that the way he did not succumb in the cruelty of Camp Amersfoort and Dachau, is fundamentally embedded in his spirituality, which is thoroughly Carmelite. SPRED Special Second Collection - 14 February 2021
Our Paisley Diocese SPRED offers people with learning disabilities: a personal friend who takes time to share life and faith, spiritual nurture in a small community of faith; and a sense of belonging to a parish community. Twenty-one SPRED groups meet in our church halls and special needs schools, allowing two hundred parishioners to come together in faith and friendship to share and experience God’s love. Sadly, our groups have not been able to meet in the past year due to the pandemic. Paisley SPRED supports three employees. In 2018 SPRED merged with the Diocese bringing in one-off restricted reserves of £95,492. Our SPRED boxes and Friends Campaign raised an additional £20,834 bringing the total income to £116,326. The Diocese also contributed £44,131 from our General Fund (pre-merger) and Papal & Episcopal Funds. With our expenditure of £72,221, SPRED restricted reserves ended the year at £88,235. Parish Finances At this time when we have limited access to the Church and have no public services our Parish income is greatly affected. The Parish and Diocese are dependent on your weekly donations to enable bills to be paid, to make repairs and maintain our church properties, as well as supporting the clergy and the ongoing pastoral work of our Parish and the Diocese. We calculate the potential loss of weekly income for St John Barrhead is around £2,892 per week. This equates to £12,532 over the next month with no/restricted numbers at public masses. St Thomas is £600 per week and so £2,800 over the next month. You may wish to consider a Standing Order to be paid directly to the parish account (weekly/monthly). You can download the form from the Parish websites (click here) or one can be posted to you. Thank you to all those who have recently moved to Standing Order so as to be able to support our finances regularly. Another way of helping the parish is by gift aiding your donations. If you are a tax payer Gift Aid increases your donation by 25%, your Gift Aid donation would be worth 25p more for every £1 donated. Click here to download the Gift Aid declaration. You can also donate to the Parish using the MyGivingHub facility provided by the Diocese, which allows you to make a single donation, set up a recurring donation and add Gift Aid if you choose. Ash Wednesday Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday the 17th of February, a day of Fasting (for those aged 16+) and Abstinence from meat (aged 14+).
