Clergy Appointment – St Thomas’, Neilston: Canon Oliver Freney is stepping down as Administrator of St Thomas’ with Bishop Keenan’s approval. Fr Jonathan Whitworth has been appointed Administrator of the parish and will take up residence in Neilston. The change will come into effect from the 17th of March. We offer our congratulations and prayerful support to Fr Jonathan on his new appointment. Ash Wednesday: Masses at 8am & 10am, 7pm on Wednesday the 1st of March. It is a day of Fasting and Abstinence from meat. There will be services in St Mark’s School and St Luke’s High School. St John’s primary will be at 10am Mass. Lenten Stations of the Cross: On Sunday 26th February at 2pm and on Friday 3rd March after the 10.am Mass. Next Sunday 26th February Coffee/Tea Morning: In the hall after the 10am Mass. First Friday Children’s Rosary in St Johns: On Friday 3rd March at 6.30pm. This is an opportunity, for children of all ages to gather together to pray the rosary. All families are invited to attend and pre-school children are very welcome. The idea is that children as young as 4 or 5 and up to around 14 can learn to lead the rosary and make the rosary part of their daily lives. The rosary only lasts around 15 minutes. There are details of two different Pilgrimages to Knock on noticeboard in porch. Diocese of Paisley Lenten Catechesis St.Mirin’s Cathedral, 2.00-4.00pm. On Sunday 12th March, Bishop Gilbert of Aberdeen will reflect on Jesus and the Woman at the Well. On Sunday 26th March, Bishop McGee of Argyll and the Isles, will reflect on Jesus and Lazarus. There also will be Testimony from Young People, Solemn Evening Prayer and Benediction with music led by our Diocesan Choir. Confessions also available. Please note this Lenten gathering is an in-person event therefore the Livestream will not be available. Lent Reflection Day for Primary School Pupils: Sunday 12th March: A day of reflection and activities, catechesis & Mass for Primary School pupils (p4-7) at St. James, 50 Greenock Road, Paisley. Every hospital has a system to contact a Priest in emergencies; a family member simply asks a member of staff to contact the Priest on Call and he will visit. We have thirteen retired priests, still active in prayer and witness: one living in Rome, five in houses throughout the diocese, three in parish presbyteries, and two at the Residence of the Little Sisters and two in Chile. We thank God for the gift of these priests and keep them in our prayers. In 2021 our two special collections and Friends Campaign raised £47,513 which represents 33% of our expenditure of £144,938 i.e. a shortfall of £97,425, which was met by the Sick & Retired Priests Investment income. We will consecrate the Parish and our families to Our Blessed Mother at all Sunday Masses. Solemnity of the Epiphany: Sunday 8th January. Repairs/Renovations in Church/Hall/ Grounds: We have very recently changed the lighting around the Church and Hall, House, to LED, which will reduce our enormous electricity Bills. We have also changed the lighting on the Sanctuary and Oratory and entrances to LED lighting and now have new hand dryers in all the toilets. We have also installed Short Wave Infrared Heating that can be left on during Mass unlike the Fan Heating which is extremely noisy and distracting. The boiler in the hall and tea-room will have frost thermostats added to avoid a repeat of frozen pipes. Unfortunately, the tea-room had a burst pipe and will be out of commission for the foreseeable future.
